Spandex is a highly elastic fiber that is commonly used in manufacturing athletic wear, such as swimsuits and leggings. A fabric manufacturer seeks to determine whether the elongation of the spandex fibers they produce is within 450-550% to ensure its high elasticity. Elongation is the ratio of the change in length before the material breaks to the initial length. The manufacturer tests the elongation of 200 samples with the same length and area. Although the results show all elongation values are within the control limits, there are many that exceed the specification limits. Therefore, the process has low Cpk (0.332) and Ppk (0.297) values.
